Escale UE Santa Coloma and Matecosa UE Sant Julià advanced during the first 90 minutes of the semifinals eliminatory round of the Constitution Cup, despite their final low score against FC Lusitans La Posa and Pidasa FC Santa Coloma, respectively. Escale closer to Europe Lluís Miquel Aloy’s boys lead yesterday 2-1 against Lusitans la Posa, in a match in which the two teams fought for the only remaining spot in the European League. In the first 90 minutes of the eliminatory round, Santa Coloma ended up winning the first match which now leads them to the big finale. Even though Lusitans opened the scoreboard early in the 4th minute with a goal by Raya – a cross shot from the front which surprised goalkeeper, Rivas-, Santa Coloma did not lose heart and they were able to bring the score to a tie in the 21st minute with a combined play. Rubio initiated the play with a long pass to Aloy from the right, who centered the ball so that Boris could shoot it deep into the net. After the break the intensity of the match continued to grow, and it was not until the 64th minute that Rodríguez ensured the definitive 2-1 win. Santa Coloma’s winning goal came again with a play from the right side. This time it was Rubio who overcame the lane, and after an assist to Rodríguez, he had enough time to turn around and send a cross shot, which snuck past Hernández and Cardoso. Escale’s happiness vanished, aware that the rival had not taken advantage of their opportunities to do something more, especially during free kicks. Aloy’s boys will have to prepare the second leg well, scheduled for 15 days from now, in order to ensure a win since it is not definitive even though it leaves them mentally closer to the Cup finale. UE Sant Julià save themselves with a victory against Pidasa Matecosa UE Sant Julià won yesterday’s match by a small margin against their all time rival, Pidasa FC Santa Coloma, in the first leg of the Cup semifinals (3-2). Julio Ferreros’ men saved themselves with a challenging victory against the league champion. Santa Coloma attacked during the first 45 minutes in the match, in which Samïr and Renato attempted to use combined plays with Juli Sánchez, who was Pidasa’s offense player of reference yesterday. It was precisely Samïr who overcame defense player, Walter, in the right lane, and assisted Juli in the 12th minute, originating the play that resulted in the first goal in which Varela fell to Santa Coloma’s forward inside the area. Manolo was the player who started the scoreboard with a left-side shot from the 11 meters to goalkeeper Friday. Matecosa did not give up and after several quick counter attacks, Riera brought the score to a tie in the 39th minute, taking advantage of a pass from Jacques from behind. In the second half, defense player Varela advanced Sant Julià with a head shot which Quim Salvat sent to the corner. The constant fouling slowed down the pace of the match, and during the last few minutes Sant Julià scored two more goals. UE Sant Julia’s 3-1 was signed by Marcelo Iguacel. Arriving from the left, he cut in front of goalkeeper Ricky and scored in an empty goal area, despite the weak opposition by defense player, Nastri. A minute later, in the 94th minute, Juli was fouled a few meters from the front. Javi Sánchez shot the ball powerfully, and goalkeeper Friday was unable to block it, and Samïr’s rebound shot sent the ball skimming the inside part of the post and into the net, establishing the definitive 2 to 3. The second match will be in 15 days in Alàs. Engordany present their credentials to play in the First Division Pepe Mengual’s men won 3-1 in the promotion match against Encamp and Engordany, which puts them in place to play in First Division next season. Encamp advanced the scoreboard with Raventós in the 7th minute. Rodríguez, however, scored a foul shot in the 14th minute and brought the score to a tie. After the break, Brian Menagual and Daniel Da Costa established the 3-1 for Engordany, who would later play with one less player when Flores was expelled in the 63rd minute. Nonetheless, there were no changes to the scoreboard. May 1st will decide both teams’ futures in the second promotion match. ...
